Christmas Message (Romans 3:21-24)

Jerry brought together passages across both the Old and New Testaments that tell us about the significance of Christmas and how everything leads toward the cross.

Christmas Eve Confessional (Scott McAndrew)

Great is the Mystery of Godliness (1 Timothy 3:14-16)

This brief passage is a great example of how much Scripture contains within it and how important time and meditation are in getting the full meaning out. Paul here brings 1 Timothy to its high point with what is likely part of an early church hymn about Christ and the church.

Confessional: Christmas, Redemption, & Adoption (Galatians 4:4-6)

Allen led us through a wonderful passage about Christ coming into the world to redeem and adopt His people. The last few minutes were particularly moving.

Modesty: The Cross and our Clothing (1 Timothy 2:8-10)

Does God really care about what we wear? Can our choice of clothing really affect our gospel witness? Yes. Modesty is humility expressed in dress. Immodesty is rooted in a prideful desire for attention and perhaps even to allure. The Gospel should have a direct affect on our wardrobe. We should learn, as one author has said, to "take God to the Gap."

Confessional: The Lord looks at the Heart (Jerry Ediger)

"But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart'" (1 Samuel 16:7).

Global Prayer: Does Your Heart Break for the Nations? (1 Timothy 2:1-7)

As a church, we need to repent of any lack of concern for the unreached peoples of the world. We believe in the one true God and the one true gospel. Therefore, we must be for the salvation of all people through our one Mediator. Monotheism is the fuel of missions. Has global prayer captured your heart?

Church Discipline: Why Would God Command This? (1 Timothy 1:18-20)

Given the way we understand love in our culture, church discipline sounds like the furthest thing from it. How can this difficult practice be biblical, right, good and even loving?

Jerry powerfully mentions so many of the people who make up North Avenue and the way that God has uniquely gifted them to minister to our church.

Moralistic Therapeutic Deism: When Good Advice Takes the Place of Good News (1 Timothy 1:3-17)

Paul warns of those who misuse the law and exhorts Timothy to put a stop to their teaching. However, Paul was once a false teacher and a religious terrorits. If God could show grace to Saul of Tarsus, there is still hope for all of us.
