Guard the Gospel as a Good Soldier of Christ | 2 Timothy 1:12-2:9

A summary of the passage shows us Paul commanding Timothy: By God's grace, guard the gospel you've been entrusted with and boldly give it to others no matter the cost because it will all be abundantly worth it in the end!

 

We all must: 1) Get the Gospel (this point is implied in 1:13); 2) Guard the Gospel (1:13-14, with positive/negative examples: 1:15-18); 3) Give the Gospel (2:1-2, as we are strengthened by grace)

This will involve: 1) Costly single-minded focus (soldier: 2:3-4); 2) Costly discipline (athlete: 2:5); 3) Costly hard work (farmer: 2:6) including deep thinking as God gives understanding (2:7)

This will be worth it because: 1) We will please God (soldier: 2:3-4); 2) We will receive an imperishable crown (athlete: 2:5; also 4:8); 3) We will reap fruitfulness (farmer: 2:6) as we play a real part in the salvation of the elect (2:8-10)
